Winthrop, which sat as low as sixth in the Big South earlier in the season, is starting to string together strong efforts.
They are now 5-4 in the conference, tied for third with North Carolina-Asheville and Charleston Southern.
"I have seen us getting better in the last week," coach Randy Peele said. "The last four or five practices have been our best of the year. Our preparation in the film room has been better. All that said; I'm not going to let up."
George Valentine says the Eagles had become a jump-shooting team.
"We had become a jump shooting team," Valentine said. "The last two games we've had a coach on the bench writing down our shots. If we take three straight jump shots without a post feed we have to run sprints."
